Is LookoutNVR really free?
Yes. The full NVR with AI detection, unlimited cameras, continuous recording, and local network access is completely free forever. You only pay if you want cloud features like remote access or push notifications with clip attachments.
How does the free trial work?
Sign up and get 14 days of Pro or Business features — no credit card required. When the trial ends, you can subscribe to keep cloud features or stay on the free tier with full local NVR access.
How does cloud clip storage work?
When AI detects an event (person, vehicle, etc.), a short clip is uploaded to the cloud for remote viewing and push notification attachments. Clips older than 30 days are automatically removed. Your local recordings are always stored on your own server with no limits. Use the storage calculator to estimate your cloud usage.
What are local push alerts?
The free tier supports push notifications via ntfy.sh, a free open-source notification service. You self-host or use their free public server — no account needed. Pro and Business tiers include cloud push with event clip attachments, no setup required.
What hardware do I need?
Any Windows 10/11 x64 PC with 4GB+ RAM. A GPU (even a basic one like GT 1030) helps with hardware-accelerated decoding but isn't required. LookoutNVR runs on any PC you already own — no dedicated server needed.
Which cameras are supported?
Any camera with RTSP or ONVIF support. This includes Hikvision, Reolink, Amcrest, Dahua, Axis, and most IP cameras. No per-camera fees on any plan.
What happens to my recordings if I cancel?
Your local recordings are always yours — they stay on your server forever. Cloud-stored clips remain accessible for 30 days after cancellation, then are deleted. Your NVR keeps working on the free tier with unlimited cameras.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. No contracts, no cancellation fees. Downgrade to the free tier anytime and your NVR keeps running with unlimited cameras. You only lose cloud features.
